How to use Google Docs in Google Classroom? Learn Now

Google Classroom is an extremely easy to use Tool that requires very little or no technical knowledge at all. The beauty of Google Classroom is that everything we do for students in a school setting, can be replicated on it. Using Google Classroom, teachers can create classes or live sessions, distribute assignments, grade students, give them feedback, and see everything under one roof. Moreover, it works on mobile devices, laptops, & tablets. And similarly, your students can attend your classes, attempt the tests you created, and receive the feedback you give them! I’m sure you’re now very excited to learn more about Google classroom.

So let’s Begin! First, you can type accounts.google.com in the address bar and login to your Google account. Once you are logged in, there are two ways to see your Google Classroom dashboard. You could either type classroom.google.com in the address bar, or click on the app grid you see here, scroll down a bit, and click on the Classroom icon.

Either way, you will land on your dashboard! If you are logging in for the first time, you may see this prompt... You can then select “I’m a teacher” and you will see the dashboard then! You’re ready now! It’s time to explore your online classroom! The first step for you would be to CREATE a class. When you click on the plus icon here, you will see two options. Join or Create a class. As a teacher, you will  CREATE a class.

You can fill in the appropriate details, and your class would be ready. The most important thing you should know is how to invite students to your class. One of the ways is to share the Class Code you see here with your students. And how will the students join your class? Your students can then click on Join Class and enter this code to enroll themselves in the class. Your class is now ready, and your students have joined the class.

Take a moment, and think about all the things you’d need to manage a class and those are the things you’ll see in the top region. You can use the Stream option to communicate with your students. We’re in the Stream section now. To take a live class, you can click here to generate a Google Meet link. You can post an update by clicking here.

You can selectively send it to a few students or to all your students. And we also have an option here to attach files. This really helps when you want to give reference material to students which they can refer to. The Classwork option can help you assign work or give assessments. This is a very important section. Clicking on Create will give you the following options.

You could give the students Long Form assignments, graded quizzes or you could also ask them just one simple question. And with this option, we can also share reference material with them. And by clicking here, you will get access to your google drive folder where you have saved all your files and material. The People tab will show you the names of the students that have enrolled in this particular class, and you will also see your name here. Sometimes you may also want to add a few more students who haven’t enrolled using your class code.

Now to add more students, you can click on this icon and enter the email addresses of the students or parents. They will then receive an email after which they will be able to join your class. And as a teacher, clicking on the Actions tab will give you these options. You can send an email to the students in this list, remove them, or even mute them if they are causing too much trouble! And now for the last one! The Grades category will show the results of ALL the tests that your students have appeared for. Don’t worry, we will see ALL of these options in much greater detail in the coming videos. But in the next video, I'm going to tell you how you can use Google Meet in your Online Classroom! See you there!
